Ninety-two per cent of the class of 25 were working within six months of graduating. That number is the easy part of the story. The interesting part is where they went, and why they chose it.
Just over half took roles at a site they had been placed at during the course. Almost none of them applied cold.
Placement turned out to be the hiring pipeline. Graduates knew the handover, the charting and half the staff before they interviewed, and the sites knew them. Several were offered roles before they had finished the final term.
“I didn’t apply anywhere. The nurse who supervised my second placement asked when I finished, and that was the interview.”
A third of the cohort have already registered interest in a Bachelor of Nursing, most of them intending to keep working while they study — the same pattern that got them through the diploma.
“Nobody in that room was doing this as a first career,” one of the trainers says. “They came in knowing what the work costs. That is why they stay in it.”
